Staying Busy During Quarantine
Let me just start off by saying I hope you are staying safe and healthy! Times are pretty uncertain right now, but I'm so happy that I'm able to spend more time with my husband. Since I work from home, I'm actually used to being home most of the day, but it's different having him here all day. It's been a learning curve for both of us!
I have enjoyed seeing what people are doing during this time to keep themselves busy and on track! Here's a few things I've been doing...
With the weather getting nicer in Chicago, I have loved being able to work outside. It has even gotten up to almost 80 degrees a few times! It's a nice change of scenery from being stuck inside during the winter. Plus, getting some fresh air and sunshine is a great way to get your body going!
I used to journal a lot, but I stopped somewhere along the way. Recently, I started journaling again and it has been such a great experience. I began using just a regular notebook (because let's just say I have plenty of them), but I am trying out the Start Today Journal from Rachel Hollis and I'm loving it!! Each morning I write down 10 things I am grateful for (5 in the STJ), 10 dreams I have, and the one goal I am currently working towards! Most morning I will write down a little blurb about things going on so when I look back I can see where I came from.
I have always been an avid reader, but when I was working, I didn't get a lot of time to pick up a book. This year, I challenged myself to try and read a least one book a week. The beginning of the year, I didn't do so hot, but the past two months I have been breezing through them -- when Cupcake let's me (see above). I've mostly been reading self development books, like Get Out of Your Own Way by Dave Hollis, which was AWESOME by the way. I highly recommend getting a copy.
Moving My Body Every Day
Every day, when it's nice enough outside, my husband and I have been going for walks. We don't walk super fast, we just take a nice walk and enjoy each other's company without technology. It allows us time to talk and connect with each other and nature. Usually, I will come home and do a session of arms or legs and abs. It's really easy to fall into a slump during times like these and become a couch potato, but it's so important to move your body every day! I don't know about you, but I always feel better after a good session when I can get my heart pumping!
Trying New Foods
We have been wanting to eat cleaner for a while and I was recommended some foods to try by a vegan friend. One thing that I have come to love is the Beyond Burger from Beyond Meat! I honestly never thought I would be a veggie burger person, but let me tell you, these things are so good. They really taste like a hamburger! We have started adding these into our weekly meal plan once or twice a week.
Getting Ready a Few Days a Week
I can admit, I am one of those people who really feel good about themselves when I get up and take the time to look good. So a few days a week, I will get up, do my hair, put on some eye liner (maybe even a full face of makeup), get dressed, and get to work!
Game Night with Friends
Once a week, a friend of ours hosts game night! It's a nice way to get some friend interaction while we are stuck at home. By the end of the night, we all just try to get the host drunk. It's a fun time!
I have always loved writing, especially fiction. It has always been an outlet for me. I've taken this opportunity to work on a few ideas that I had been playing around with for a while. They were just notes filed away on my phone waiting for me sit down and piece them together. It has definitely been a nice distraction! I guess that's why I thought now was a great time to finally start my blog too!
